Driving through the Southern Cape over the past two weeks signs of dry
planting was evident here and there, while the Swartland has seen its fair share
of stubble burning. The rain has stayed away thus far and we are all casting our
eyes to the heavens with hope in our hart that the rain will come soon.
We hope you enjoy the current newsletter, the first published directly on our
website. The new website is open to all and no login will be required.
The CAWC (BLWK) conference week practical day on the 3rd of August is also
taking shape and will include a lecture on diversity in cropping systems as well
as 5 trial areas at Boland Agricultural high School. Trials will include canola
planted with different seeders at different seeding rates, varying N fertiliser in
the furrow on canola and wheat with different seeders and an organic fertiliser
program vs an anorganic fertiliser program on canola and wheat to name
Good luck to those of you who have started their seeding. The planting of the
research trials will start with Riversdale on the 24th of April.

We are nearing planting season and are hopeful that the needed rain will come. The March newsletter contains some interesting pieces that might challenge our thinking.

Our first Brown tour of the season took place on the 9th of March and for those of you who could not attend we include the two short lectures presented on the day in this month’s newsletter. We will also post the videos on the website once the it is up and running.
